Must-see spots

Conquer the waves at Saint-Brévin-l’Océan! The seaside resorts of the southern Loire and their long beaches offer ideal conditions for surfing during your camping vacation in St Brevin.

  • Plage de L’Ermitage ( Saint-Brévin-l’Océan): this is the emblematic spot of Saint-Brevin. The waves are regular and well distributed. Beginners benefit from favorable conditions for a gentle introduction. The waves roll long, so learning is easy. Also perfect for bodyboarders.
  • La plage des Rochelets ( Saint-Brévin-l’Océan): just a stone’s throw from the campsite, a must-see spot in Loire-Atlantique. The sandbanks form moderate waves that are easy to surf. Perfect for learning to surf!
  • La plage du Gohaud (Saint Michel Chef Chef): a spot that works well at high tide, not too edgy. The waves are accessible and allow novices to surf in complete safety.

Advice for beginner surfers

The weather influences surfing conditions, so check the forecast before you go! Before venturing out into the ocean, make sure you follow the safety rules in force. Wear the right equipment, be aware of currents and respect other surfers.

For experienced surfers, head for Pointe Saint-Gildas

To the south of Saint-Brevin, the Pointe Saint-Gildas in Préfailles is well known to surfers and board enthusiasts, with its succession of renowned spots. From Nantes, head for Pornic, then La Plaine-sur-Mer and Pointe Saint-Gildas.

This is where you’re most likely to find the best waves in Loire-Atlantique. More technical waves, more difficult to surf, reserved for experienced surfers looking for something “stronger”. Watch out for the rocks! Unlike Saint-Brevin, where the waves take you back to the sand, here you’ll have to slalom between the rocks.

  • Port-aux-Ânes Port: the “easiest” wave, on the edge of the commune of La Plaine-sur-Mer, before reaching Pointe Saint-Gildas.
  • L’Apcheu: rock wave, just in front of Pointe Saint-Gildas. Be careful, there’s little water and the current is very strong.
  • L’Anse du Sud : a pretty cove with a rocky wave at high tide, and a sandy wave at low tide.
