Where can you go treading water in Loire-Atlantique?

At a time when longe-côte is becoming increasingly popular, your 4-star campsite Les Rochelets, in Saint-Brévin-les-Pins, introduces you to the discipline. Where? When? How do you go about longe-côte? What are the benefits of this new French sport? We tell you everything!

A little history

Longe-côte, also known as water walking, sea walking or water hiking, is a sport that has been practiced in northern France since around 2005. It was on these large sandy beaches that the sport was first practised. The sport consists of walking in water (a little cold, let’s face it), immersed up to the diaphragm, in the middle of the stomach or between the navel and the armpits. It’s hard work, but very pleasant and, above all, suitable for everyone. You can use a paddle to move forward. It’s especially advisable to wear a neoprene wetsuit and booties, summer and winter alike, to protect you from the pebbles, cold and sun.

The benefits of longe-côte

No wonder it’s increasingly popular, especially with women. It’s a health and well-being sport that’s accessible to all. It combines technique, cardio (depending on speed), fun and conviviality. A complete sport, it works the muscular, respiratory, cardiac and circulatory systems. Suitable for everyone, the muscular workout is gentle yet intense. Whether you know how to swim or not, whether you’re sporty or not, it’s an activity that’s within everyone’s reach, in an idyllic setting: the water’s edge.
