The history of Pornic



Discover the history of this town near St Brevin: Pornic comes from “porniti” meaning port. Between 1793 and 1796, the Vendée War attacked the town of Pornic. Lost to the Vendée insurgents, the town of Pornic was destroyed by fire. Relive this page of history during your vacation. During the Second World War, on June 26, 1940, the German army invaded Pornic and numerous blockhouses were built. You’ll see some of them in Saint-Brévin, but also at Pointe Saint-Gildas and Sainte-Marie during your stay.
