Fancy going to the seaside this summer? If you’re one of the undecideds when it comes to choosing your next seaside destination, here are 5 good reasons why you should go to Loire-Atlantique for your summer vacations.
1. Its beaches
Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the département boasts no fewer than 90 beaches and coves that are a delight for holidaymakers during the summer season! Among Loire-Atlantique’s finest beaches is the large Plage de l’Hermitage in Saint-Brévin, just a stone’s throw from Les Rochelets campsite, which is as popular for swimming as it is for kitesurfing and sand yachting. Water sports fans beware!
2. Unmissable towns of character
Vacations in the Loire-Atlantique region also offer you the chance to visit some of the most charming towns in France. During your stay at the seaside, don’t miss a visit to the superb fortified town of Guérande, as well as the pretty seaside resort of Pornic.
And for those who have the opportunity to visit the Nantes region, they can also discover the superb Château de Clisson and its Tuscan-style town, or the former fishing village of Trentemoult, which is now a favorite with artists, just a stone’s throw from Nantes.
3. Stunning landscapes
Lovers of wide open spaces will enjoy cycling in Loire-Atlantique, following the coastal path and its carrelets, and stopping off at the beach where the ocean snake of Saint-Brévin is located, for example. Those who prefer hiking will have plenty of time to discover the wild coastline and salt marshes of the Guérande peninsula.
4. Local specialities
With the LU, BN and Saint-Michel factories, the region is also renowned for its little cakes, which have been enjoyed by everyone since childhood. A vacation in Loire-Atlantique is also an opportunity to find out more about the region’s production sites, including those in Nantes and Saint-Michel-chef-chef.
But it’s not the region’s only specialty! Other sweet delicacies include Bottereau and gâteau nantais. And for holidaymakers and cheese lovers visiting Pornic, there’s the opportunity to visit the Pornic cheese dairy, where the famous Curé Nantais is produced.
5. Fishing on foot
Many of the holidaymakers who come to enjoy the department’s many beaches love to indulge in a pastime specific to the Atlantic coast: fishing on foot. Equipped with rakes, buckets and baskets, young and old alike can make the most of their seaside vacations and enjoy a family-friendly activity in the heart of nature!
