Practical tips for a successful visit to Planète Sauvage

Planète Sauvage is one of France’s largest wildlife parks, just 15 minutes from Nantes. Schedules, prices, on-site services, best times to see the animals, must-do activities, catering… here’s our advice for planning your visit to Planète Sauvage!

Where is the Planète Sauvage zoo?

The Planète Sauvage wildlife park is located in Port-Saint-Père, Loire-Atlantique (44), 15 minutes from Nantes in the direction of Pornic. Allow 1 hour from Rennes, Cholet or La Roche-sur-Yon.

Opening dates and times

Planète Sauvage is open from February 8 to November 30. Opening times and dates vary according to the season. In July and August, the park welcomes visitors every day from 9.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Our advice:

  • Go when it’s not too hot, as the animals are more active and easier to observe.
  • It’s best to visit during the week, and avoid busy Sundays.

How to visit Planète Sauvage

There are several options for visiting the park:

On foot, you can wander around the park’s various theme zones on the well-developed footpaths.

Drive along the Safari Trail at your own pace. And for total immersion, board a bush truck with a guide for a 2-hour tour of the Safari Trail.

The zoo by car: the Safari trail

Planète Sauvage is famous for its 10 km safari trail , which you can drive around in your own car. It’s the longest Safari Trail in France!

If you follow the safety instructions, you and your vehicle are in no danger. However, windows must be kept closed and it is forbidden to get out of the vehicle. The speed limit is 20 km/h, and it is possible to do the Safari Trail with a camper van.

To avoid traffic jams, it’s best to start your visit early in the morning. Afternoons, however, offer better tiger-watching opportunities. Don’t forget to bring binoculars for the best viewing.

For safety reasons, open-top vehicles, convertibles, motorcycles or cars without a license are not allowed. In this case, we recommend that you reserve a place on the 4×4 raid.
