Imagine yourself boarding a huge 1930s ocean liner for an exceptional transatlantic crossing. Follow in the footsteps of yesterday’s passengers as you explore the decks, passageways, cabins and lounges… Contemplate some 200 exceptional decorative objects, true jewels of the ocean liners.

Escal’Atlantic is a breathtaking journey. Visitors embark on an expedition through history and ocean liners, combining the techniques of show business, theater, scenography and special effects. Families are immersed in a true shipboard experience, from boarding, to the voyage and discovery of the liner, to the arrival at port.

Escal’ Atlantic, a journey through history

Created in April 2000, at the instigation of the city of Saint-Nazaire, this historic site transports you into the world of legendary liners. L’Ile-de-France (1927), Le Normandie (1935) and Le France (1962) were all built and first sailed from here!

During the Second World War, the former transatlantic station was transformed into a bunker built by the Germans. Having rehabilitated this space into an immersive museum, now known as Escal’ Atlantic, the architects, engineers and scenographers have achieved a real feat. More than 3,700 m² on three levels invite visitors to enjoy an incredible experience.

Saint-Nazaire, departure point for transatlantic liners

The great transatlantic liners are the spearhead of Nazairian tourism. The city of shipyards has seen some of the world’s largest and most beautiful liners built and sailed to the ends of the earth. Even today, the shipyards, which are open to the public, hold a full order book until 2026! Nearly 6,000 people are employed to build them every year. Welcome to Saint-Nazaire, starting point for transatlantic shipping and now terminus of the Loire bicycle route!

Access: Boulevard de la Légion d’Honneur 44600 Saint-Nazaire – Self-guided tour (1h to 1h30), website: www.saint-nazaire-tourisme.com

Photo@Escal’Atlantique – Tourisme Loire Atlantique

Immerse yourself in the world of the giants of the seas at the Escal’Atlantic immersive cultural and tourist museum in Saint-Nazaire, Loire-Atlantique.
