Why go off-season?<\/h2>\n\n

The mild, pleasant temperatures<\/strong> of the off-season are just the thing for those who have trouble coping with the summer heat. That’s one of the reasons to go on vacation in September or even October! What’s more, at this time of year, prices are minimal<\/strong>. You’re in for a bargain, and your wallet will thank you for it. <\/p>\n\n

Leaving in the off-season also offers the advantage of going against the flow and avoiding the crowds. The kids are back at school. You’re relaxed and at peace. You also avoid traffic jams on the road<\/strong>! You’re zen. <\/p>\n\n

Another good reason to go off-season is that it’s the best way to meet the locals. You can discover the real local life of the region<\/strong>. Markets are emptied of tourists, bicycles are finally available for hire… It’s a no-stress vacation! <\/p>\n\n

What to do on the Jade Coast in September or October?<\/h2>\n\n

The C\u00f4te de Jade<\/strong> is the coastal fringe of the Pays de Retz<\/strong> in Loire-Atlantique<\/a>. It stretches from the Loire estuary<\/a> in the north to the Marais Breton-Vend\u00e9en<\/strong> in the south, bordering the Baie de Bourgneuf. The 43 kilometers of shoreline are a blend of steep coasts, intimate coves and long sandy beaches, dotted with fisheries, marinas… <\/p>\n\n

Fishing trip<\/h2>\n\n

What shellfish can you catch on the C\u00f4te de Jade? During the high tides of September-October, many amateur fishermen arrive on the coast between Pornic and La Bernerie-en-Retz.<\/strong> They often come for the star of the foreshore: the clam<\/strong>! Buried just a few centimetres beneath the sand, you just have to scrape a little to find it. Be careful: you’ll have to put it back in the water if it isn’t at least 3.5 cm in diameter. There are also oysters, razor clams, curlers and shrimps… <\/p>\n\n

Walking or cycling<\/h2>\n\n

Swimming may no longer be the main activity on an off-season vacation. Why not set off, backpacks full and shoes on, on the trails of the C\u00f4te de Jade? Many of them are well-marked and well-developed. The most famous of these is the sentier des Douaniers, with its incredible ocean views<\/strong>. For cyclists, Pr\u00e9failles<\/a>, for example, lies at the crossroads of the V\u00e9loc\u00e9an and V\u00e9lodyss\u00e9e trails. Here, as in Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef<\/a>, Pornic<\/a> or Saint-Br\u00e9vin, <\/strong>everything is designed for cycling! <\/p>\n\n
